Jess has written some lovely words about a couple of my other passions – thank you!  And I think our friends would like to know a few things about her too. Jess is the person who’s behind the scenes online. She did a fabulous job with the design of our site, and apart from her duties here as Webmistress, social media advisor and marketing maestro, she has a few other passions.

She’s a keen gardener with a passion for growing strawberries — she cultivates a number of different varieties. Besides strawberries, her garden is filled with other unusual edible plants (have you heard of cucamelons, inca berries, asparagus peas and the lemonade tree?). While her garden is small, she’s managed to produce a remarkable crop of cucamelons, so many that she’s had to pickle them in order to keep up with the number of fruits produced! Here’s a picture of her freshly pickled cucamelons. They taste just like little pickled cucumbers but with a twist of lemon.

Jess’s passion for strawberry growing is not only that she loves to eat those delicious mouthfuls straight off the bush, but also that she’s discovered that wine can be made from them. She’s already produced one successful vintage — a delicious rosé style wine.  A dessert wine (also made with strawberries) is currently underway which I look forward to tasting  at my Christmas lunch.

Jess also creates lovely body oils using essential oils. (if you’re reading this Jess, I need a refill please!) And her latest interest is distilling essential oils. I look forward to seeing the fruits of this labour.
